Consecutive Interpreting

Your Message is Noteworthy

Consecutive interpreting relays the original speech sequentially, or consecutively, into the other language. Using a specifically developed note taking system, the interpreter captures individual passages of the spoken original and relays them to the audience. Depending on the length of the original, the interpreter relays the entire speech or shorter intervals. Due to the sequential nature of this interpreting mode, enough time should be allocated for the translation during the organization of the event.

A special form of consecutive interpreting is dialogue interpreting or liaison interpreting. Here, the special note taking technique is used to capture and translate shorter utterances in order to create a natural and fluid dialogue between both speakers.
